About Martha:
I was raised in Calgary and after a fulfilling career in broadcast journalism and corporate communications in Alberta and Ontario a move to two beautiful parts of Canada, firstly the Okanagan Valley BC and now to Georgian Bay ON, changed my thinking about how I wanted to “interpret my world” and I transitioned from writing to drawing and painting.
My work is recognized for strong expressive strokes, emotional energy and dramatic blends of colour.
"When I paint I am totally immersed in the moment and unaware of my surroundings. The only focus is my canvas where the marks that I make and the feelings they evoke take over. From beneath layers of texture a story begins to emerge, often unintended but arresting in its intensity. When the painting is finished I'm usually covered in paint and exhausted but exhilarated and very grateful for the ‘stories’ I am able to create and the pleasure they bring to others".
Even away from my studio I'm immersed in art as an Elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists (Toronto, ON), NAP Contemporary Fine Arts (US), Active member of FCA Toronto and most recently an Elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists (Toronto, ON)
Please note, on my website all my paintings have been sold with the exception of those available at galleries Arte Funktional, Vernon, BC, Mountainside Gallery Inc. in Collingwood, ON, Neilson Creative Centre, Toronto, ON, Pazan Gallery, Mississauga ON and Artsper, France however, I'm busy in my studio and new paintings will be available soon.
